Help & Support
The quickest way to get help: email hello@imprint.photo. Imprint is made by one person, and every message comes straight to me. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Below are answers to the questions that come up most often. If yours isn't here, just drop me a line.
What does Imprint actually do?
It scans your photo library and groups photos that look alike — the five nearly identical shots you took to get one good one, and the edited copies your editing apps saved next to their originals. For each group it suggests the best shot, you confirm or change the choice, and Imprint clears the rest. Where it finds an edit and its original, it can lay the edit back onto the original so you keep one photo instead of two.
Will Imprint change or delete my photos without asking?
No. Scanning changes nothing. Every collection is shown to you, the best shot is only a suggestion, and nothing is deleted or altered until you tap Delete or Apply and confirm. Deleted photos go to Recently Deleted in Photos, where they can be restored for 30 days.
Are my photos private?
Completely. Everything Imprint does — the scanning, the grouping, the edits — happens on your device using Apple’s own image analysis. Your photos are never uploaded, transmitted, or seen by us or anyone else. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
How much is free, and what does unlocking cost?
Your first twenty photo actions are free — a photo deleted or an edit layered onto its original each counts as one. After that, a single one-time purchase unlocks Imprint for good, with no subscription, ever. You can see how many free actions you have left in Settings. If you’ve already bought Imprint on another device, or you’ve reinstalled the app, tap Restore purchase to get it back at no extra cost.
The scan is taking a while. Can I leave the app?
Yes. Progress is saved as it goes, so you can leave Imprint and come back — the scan picks up where it left off. The first scan of a large library is the slow one; after that, pulling down to refresh only looks at what’s new.
What’s the dotted outline around two photos?
That’s an edit and its original — two files from one press of the shutter. Tap Layer and Imprint works out which is which, applies the edit’s look onto the original, and offers to delete the now-redundant copy. If it can’t tell which is the edit, it asks you.
An edited photo wasn’t paired with its original. Why?
Imprint pairs an edit with its original using the photo’s capture time and metadata. A few editing apps rewrite that information on export, which breaks automatic matching. For those, open the ⋯ menu and choose Layer two photos… to pick the pair yourself.
What is the “Imprint - Best Shots” album?
When you keep a photo and delete its duplicates, Imprint files the keeper into an album called “Imprint - Best Shots”, so the photos you chose are easy to find and edit later. It’s just an album — nothing is moved or copied — and you can turn this off in Settings.
How do I undo a change Imprint made?
For a layered edit, open the photo in the Photos app, tap Edit, then choose Revert to Original. Because Imprint applies edits non-destructively, your original is always recoverable. For a deleted photo, open Recently Deleted in Photos and tap Recover.
